A Letter to Papa.

Hey, it’s Father’s Day and I get to brag about my dad. It’s not like I don’t brag every other day, but for the sake of this event, you are going to have to hear me out. I am not sorry.

This is to the man that made growing up beautiful. The one man I’ll forever hold dear to my heart.

Anyone who knows me, knows I never pass up an opportunity to talk about this man.

A dad is the most important person in his daughter’s life. So yeah, that’s my hero!

A Man In Uniform

There’s this stereotype that comes with men in uniform and being hard-core. The only reason I’ll agree is because of the endurance training and exercises. And for those that go to the battlefield, the horror!

These men are wired differently. That being said, you will find the most disciplined amongst them. Other than the fact that all men are big babies, the ones in uniform are bigger babies, and it’s cute to see.

My dad was in the Navy. A marine superintendent with a proper grass-to-grace story. I had no idea until I read his diary one time (shame on me).

He did certain hard labor jobs I never would have imagined, but you can’t blame me. I was born into a soft life, and that was all that mattered.

I would have loved to talk about how men should learn to stop internalizing a lot. How they should learn to not hold back. Stacking up lots of burdens, and worries. It would’ve been the perfect time to encourage men to learn to speak up, but naaaaaah, not today.

I bet they will never hear the last of it today. But men, take it easy on yourselves. Know your self-worth and find someone who is worthy of it.

I couldn’t help but drop that one line, I tried.

Daddy, I’m sorry I digressed, but how can I not? You paved the way for my belief that there are super amazing men out there.

A Letter To My Father.

Dear Dad,

I know you are reading this right now. I didn’t think much of those things you say when pulling your ears back. Whenever your mouth was moving and your words were hitting me, Yes, those things, I didn’t know the impact until I met Mr. Adulthood.

I would have appreciated you being more specific about what was waiting for me, but I am grateful. I am grateful for the values and morals you instilled in my life.

They say words can’t express how much a Father loves his child, but his actions speak volumes. I think about this every now and then. It’s been eleven years now and your love is loud, too loud. I can still feel it.

You worked hard to give us the opportunities you never had. I say thank you for all the things you sacrificed for my siblings and me. A sacrifice fueled by love!

I thank you for teaching me to be responsible and for letting me know what it means to be respected. The life of honesty, hard work, and perseverance that I watched you live shaped the way I think.

I miss the sense of security and the feeling of safety whenever I know you are around.

You put all your kids first before anything or anyone else, including yourself. Everything that you were, was built around your family. As selfish as this sounds, I couldn’t have asked for a better dad!

You were not perfect, that I am sure of, but you were perfect to me. Because of you, I can overcome any challenge in my life.

You were never afraid to die. You feared nothing. Never failed to remind us to lead a good life and listen to your words of advice because someday you would be gone. Well, on the 14th of October 2011, that someday eventually came around.

You protected me, and I can only pray that my unborn son and my husband share most of your traits.

It hurts to know you wouldn’t be there to walk me down the aisle. It hurts to know I didn’t get the chance to say I love you and tell you goodbye. I wish you could have stayed.

I am not going to cry as this isn’t a sad story. The memories I had while writing this are very beautiful. Your legacy lives on!

To the men who take care of their responsibilities and who set an example every day to show what it means to care for the people they love — Thank you! Please take time to connect with your children and children take time to connect with your Fathers.

I understand your pain if you’ve lost your Father. Even though it’s sad to know, as each day passes, It actually does get better. Wounds do heal with time. You can still celebrate Father’s day by honoring his memory. He would love to see you happy!

And to all the Fathers still grinding on earth, the Fathers trying their hardest to give their kids a strong future — Happy Father’s Day to you!

Sending love to my Father and all other Fathers in heaven.

PS: Mom is fine. She has always been stronger than you, so she’s okay. We are trying our best to keep up with the love you spoiled her with. It’s hard to fill your shoes, but we can only try.

Thank you for reading until the end and let’s keep in touch! You can follow, clap or drop a comment to let me know what you think.
